Day Trip Hiking at Enchanted Rock

Two Saturdays ago, the day after Christmas I had a spontaneous urge wanting to go hiking at Enchanted Rock. And I did exactly just that.

Christian & I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed from our very last calm and peaceful Christmas night just the two of us. I made us a patch of fluffy whole wheat pancakes served with our favorite amber maple syrup. We enjoyed a leisure breakfast before we scurried out the door.
It was not a hop, skip, and a jump from Downtown Austin to Llano, TX then another 24 miles south of Llano to get to our destination. However, the 1 hour 45 minutes scenic drive of the Hill Country was rather enjoyable. Along the way we made our decision to solidify the offer for our (potential) new home! I couldn't contain my excitement and called the seller's agent to give our counteroffer as we continue our drive. And to our amazement, our terms were accepted and currently under contract. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everything to go through smoothly. I will keep you updated.

Let's get back to our impromptu hike at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.
Originally we planned to hike to the top of the Summit Trail, climb back down, and finish with half of the 4.9 miles Loop Trail hike.
Oh, boy! were we ambitious!
Don't let appearances fool you.

Despite what your eyes see or what photographs depict, this enormous pink granite pluton batholith was anything but flat. The distance to the Summit is 1 mile short but the steepness rises 425 feet above the bottom terrain. It is not for the faint of heart but most definitely rewarding if you're able to make it to the very top. The view is quite rewarding, mile after mile after mile of lush rolling green Texas hill countryside.

If I can make this hike at 20 weeks pregnant (pregnancy + outfit details here), so can you!

We decided to explore a different route and stray off path of the Summit Trail on our way down.

By the time we ambled down to ground we opted out on the half of 4.9 miles Loop Trail hike. We hopped, skipping and jumped over (25 minutes drive to be exact) to  in Fredericksburg, TX. With a growling belly, we popped in and out of a few different stores on Main Street before deciding to stay at The Peach Tree restaurant for a couple bowls of their soup of the day and sandwiches. I elected to have a bowl of creamy butternut squash soup and tuna salad sandwich on whole-grain bread. Christian went for their Santa Fe Corn Chowder soup and ham + cheese croissant.

And they were delicious!
I hate to admit it but his croissant sandwich was the main star.
It's a Peach Tree Classic for 20 years!
Freshly-baked crusty croissant with ham, Muenster Cheese, cucumber slices, black olives, fresh salad greens and herbed mayonnaise.
Yeah, it's as scrumptious as it sounds. Make sure to stop by if you're visiting.
With a full belly we walked down Main Street and popped in a German bakery shop for a bag full of danishes and donuts before driving back home. It was a memorable last Saturday of 2015.
